IN LAUNCHING OF THE DIGITIZED MOTOR INSURANCE DATABASE THE MINISTER OF FINANCE SHEKU A.F BANGURA REPRESENTS THE PRESIDENT H.E DR. MAADA BIO
The Minister of Finance, Hon Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura has on behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone has officially launched the Motor Insurance Data Base today 8 December 2023 at the New Brookfields Hotel.
This timely and momentous event attracted a broad spectrum of key stakeholders including top cabinet ministers of finance, transport, trade, the Secretary General ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme M. Winfred Kwasi DODZIH , senior government officials in the line ministries, the private sector, brokers, insurers, the public, Motor Driver’s Union, the Sierra Leone Police, the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, and the Media.
In his opening statement, the commissioner of the Sierra Leone Insurance Commission(SLICOM) spoke of the tremendous strides made by the commission in collaboration with other institutions to improve and transform the Sierra Leone Leone insurance industry through digitalisation and innovation which is part of the commitment of President Bio ’s Big Five Game Changers.
He disclosed that digitalizing the motor insurance database in Sierra Leone is an innovative initiative and user friendly application that can offer quality insurance services and products which will boost economic growth.
The Honourable Deputy Minister of Transport, Rex Bonafa reiterate the importance of the Digitalization of the systems, that this move is apt and timely and that his ministry will continue to support the Commission on their objectives.
In addition the Honourable Minister of Trade and Industry, Alpha Ibrahim Sesay underscore the positive impact this DataBase will create in continent by increasing inter continental trade among it members State.
In Launching the Digitized Motor Insurance DataBase, the Honourable Minister of Finance Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura emphasised the importance of the digitalisation of the motor insurance database and recognized such development as a significant step and key Pillar of President Bio’s so economic transformational journey through innovation and digitalisation.
Minister Bangura pointed out the key benefits the country stands to derive in the months ahead ; amongst them is :
– Increase in revenue,
– reduce fraud and above all financial inclusion.
He also went further to single out the significance of the ECOWAS BROWN CARD which can provide complete guarantee for a prompt, fair and immediate compensation for any accident that may occur outside the country of residence.
In his closing remarks the Honourable Minister of Finance called for the deployment of an effective communication strategy that is inclusive and participatory to promote and enhance the sustainability of the program .
He commended all present with special appreciation to the commission and also the staff of the Ministry of Finance who provided technical support in one way or the other in making the process a success.
The event was climaxed by his keynote speech and the official launching of the motor insurance database referencing the long over due Motor insurance tariff scheme that was not reviewed for over 20 years and the good news of linking the revised motor insurance premium in Sierra Leone with the ECOWAS BROWN CARD Scheme
